DVanB's Monthly Gastronomic Highlights (September 2018 Edition)

The heat of August transitioned to the rain of September here in the DC area, perhaps signalling to us all about the impending transition from summer to fall. While the inclement weather may have meant a few less chances to eat outside, it did nothing to deter one's appetite; in fact, it started another transition...towards the heartier foods of the cooler and colder months ahead.

Serving board with bread, cheese, meats and other foods.

Dined out at a local cheese shop/restaurant and enjoyed a sampling of their plethora of cheeses and charcuterie.

Pot of stew.

Inspired by my periodic reading of Waverly Root's The Food of France, I decided to make my own pot au feu with a variety of items from my fridge and garden.

Why choose "pre-set" donut flavors when you can choose your own?!! Lemon-glazed with sprinkles on the left; chocolate-dipped with bacon on the right.

Pepperoni pizza

Why yes, it was National Pepperoni Pizza Day in September. How did you guess?

Four pork chops on a grill.

After an extended period of rain, it was nice to be outside again and get the grill going.

And now it's time for the "heart of Fall," October...for pumpkins, apples, warm spices and sweet treats.
